If you love a fresh, eau de cologne style fragrance, then you will love this fragrance from Givenchy that has just launched as a John Lewis exclusive. It’s 100% unisex being neither particularly traditionally masculine or feminine but falling into the citrus musk category. To my nose, it’s all citrus – lemon, bergamot, mandarin and orange are so much more prominent than the musk. Aside from orange (helped by orange blossom as a note), I can’t really pick the notes apart but the ‘cloud’ if you like, is so fresh and green thanks to bitter almond that adds the crispness.
It’s inspired by Clos Fiorentina, a country house owned by Hubert de Givenchy in the South of France. Surrounded by terraces and with trees stretching out to the sea I can truly see how this fragrance might be the very antidote to those close, oppressive south of France days where there’s no breeze and the sun is relentless. My paperwork here describes it as a shower of freshness – spot on! In the wear, I didn’t find it particularly long lasting but as with eau de cologne, I think being able to spritz when you please without overloading might be a benefit. Anyway, if you’re feeling all hot and can’t bear anything that might be vaguely cloying, Eau de Givenchy might be the thing that hits the spot. It’s £60 (100ml) HERE.

How does this differ from the original 1970s favourite which Givenchy discontinued and then relaunched as part of The Mythicals collection? I’m crossing my fingers that its the original relaunched.
I don’t know – I couldn’t afford Givenchy then! My dad used to bring back little bottles of Carven Ma Griffe though in the 70s – they used to give them out on the plane.. what happened to that, I wonder!
Our local Givenchy counter had a wonderful assistant who would loiter customer side of the counter offering a spray. The slightest acquiescence and you’d be misted in Givenchy head to waist. Happy Days
Today I visited John Lewis and had a spray Of the new Eau de Givenchy. It is different from the 1970s original. A pleasant very citrus fragrance that lingers on the skin but with little sillage.
