Several years ago lots of bloggers tried co-washing – washing their hair with conditioner only. Many conditioners contain a light load of cleansing agents anyway, and if your hair is thick and unruly then the consensus is that it can work really, really well and especially on curly hair because you don’t strip the hair of natural oils. I’ve never dared try it myself because I just can’t quite get my head around not having squeaky clean hair. So Ojon are making the earlier trend mainstream and its absolutely appropriate for a scaredy co-washer like me because its in a proper bottle and all that!
Ojon’s Cleansing Conditioner is formulated without sulfates or glycerin so there’s no lather as such, but it will get rid of sebum and general hair grime. I think you could say that this is something that’s been done before; think of Wash N Go as a very early, far less sophisticated example of shampoo and conditioner in one.. if I ask myself is this shampoo and conditioner or conditioner and shampoo or both or neither then my head nearly explodes so I’ll keep an open mind on it until I’ve tried it. It doesn’t launch til March time but I’ll post a review once I’ve given it a go.

Richard Ward do a no lather combined conditioner & cleanser called Pure. It’s a bit pricey but you do get 500ml. I used it today on my fine dyed hair & it worked well. You have to rinse until your hair is squeaky clean so you don’t miss out!
I tried co-washing a few years ago using a recipe from the internet involving lots of conditioner and Castile soap, of all things. It didn’t really work on my hair (in hindsight, I think I put too much conditioner in the mixture), but I’d like to give it a go again now that someone else has worked out the ratios for me. 🙂
Kerastase also had a cleansing conditioner!
I’m currently testing out WEN. It’s been an adjustment, but I’m seeing good results. I’m so use to lather. I’ve tried other Ojon products and really liked them. Can’t wait for your review and thoughts.

I tried cowashing a few years ago, and it really worked on my curls but left my scalp feeling itchy. I would love to try this product, but its unlikely to fit into my budget. A cheap option – sulphate free shampoo (boots value range is one I believe) mixed with a silicone free conditioner. I find this gives me the best of both worlds!

I only ever shampoo my roots and condition my hair below my ears, and a few times a month I wash it without shampoo, or if I have to wash my hair a few days in a row I don’t use shampoo. This is a good idea though for people who want to try it out 🙂

I still think it’s got to be conditioner with cleanser in order to work… but then if I think too long I’ll change sides. I like the idea, though I understand the reluctance… but ooh again with the back and forth

Palmers now do a cleansing conditioner – you’ll find it in afro-caribbean beauty shops. Might be worth a try since it’ll be cheaper.
