Annick Goutal is no stranger to a rose fragrance – Rose Pompon is the fourth to appear for the brand. I’ve seen so many rose fragrances recently and the surprise with this one is that there’s a lot more to it than rose!
The look of Annick Goutal Rose Pompon is delicious – a syrupy pink glass bottle with a graduated tone: for some reason it makes me think of rose petal and lychee cocktails (a Mr BBB speciality!). So with all this pink around, you’d expect some kind of sugared, powdery rose, which Rose Pompon isn’t. It’s got a level of spice in it – a masculine angle, if you like, along with a fruity-berry-ish accord and some big peony notes, too. Somewhere in there is Rose Centifola which rounds the whole thing into an unobtrusive, day rose fragrance that you could happily wear without smelling like you’ve emerged from a vat of rose oil.
Rosa Centifolia is known as the pom-pom rose for its round head with many petals that make it look like a pom-pom!
Annick Goutal Rose Pompon is £67 for the 50ml version HERE.
