Reader Review: Testing So You Don’t Have To – Under Eye Concealers

Who better to test an under-eye concealer than a new mum? Gigi at http://www.mumsrock.com did the honours and here’s her review:

‘Show me a youthful and well-rested looking mother and I’ll show you someone who has a nanny and a freedom pass to the local Botox clinic. Let’s face it, the only way to achieve that look of carefree youth is to find that rarest of things – a concealer that really works. I was delighted to be asked to road-test three, courtesy of the unflappable (and distinctly brighter of eye) BritishBeautyBlogger.

Soap & Glory Trick and Treatment Under Eye Dark Circle Concealer, £8.99. I love the retro style of the packaging, but does it work? Well, yes and no. The yellow hues managed to cancel out the purple haze of my nasty eye baggage but the downside was that the product seemed on the thin side and needed some building up. Not great when you are time-poor and knackered.

Prescriptives Flawless Skin Concealer, £16. This has an SPF and came in a swishy little chrome-style pot (with mirror – always handy for touch-ups). Now, whether I hadn’t moisturised enough or my skin just sagged under the weight of it, this didn’t work so well. The colour was better, lighter in a more Touche Eclat style, but with a slightly powdery consistency which resulted in it highlighting the wrinkles I had previously been oblivious to. This worked far better as a spot cover-up but might be a winner for oilier skins.

E.l.f. Studio Line Under Eye Concealer And Highlighter, £3.50. Finally, all the magic of the beauty gods collided into the one perfect product! The press release waffles about this being a cult product from the US, make up artist quality, blah, blah, blah! But, does it work? Well, yippetty doo da, it does! The E.l.f. stick is double ended with a yellow concealer brush at one end and a highlighter/shadow/brightener at the other. The product glided on with just enough moisture and pigment to cover the offending circles, and then you can plop a bit of the highlighter across your lids, under the brows and well, wherever you fancy, and hey….you are alive again! The combo is available in 3 different shades and more importantly, this is a budget brand. I know! It’s on sale from 21st July at www.eyeslipsface.co.uk.

I can never get an under eye concealer that works on my super pale English/ Irish skin. They’re all very good but much too dark! I guess i need to try the japanese range.
