One thing we can say that is that MAC is really good at is unearthing people who can move us with colour. Chris Chang – I think we should say a designer with a fashion line (Poesia means Poetry) – is known for her work with blazing hues with inspiration taken from history, culture, ethnicity, national dress and nature. This is a collection with two names really – hashtags are #MACPoesia while packaging is MAC x Chris Chang; best of both worlds really.
She says, “My inspiration comes from the traditional aesthetics of ethnic tribes and costumes from various countries, as well as the transformative world of art. My clothes are imbued with a supercharged drama both individualistic and childlike in its interpretation. My designs are for women who are eccentric and confident. Color is the integral fuel of my imagination and the spirit M·A·C and I share. This collaboration is a dream come true for the maximalists of the world.”
We can expect to see an absolute colour riot when the MAC x Chris Chang launches in June with 14 products, including lipsticks, eye shadows, cream colour base, fluidline and pressed powder. James Gager, Creative Director, MAC Cosmetics, says of Chris, “I was immediately drawn to her vibrant personality and quirky, colorful and quite girly aesthetic. It was love at first sight! Like all of our collaborations, Chris’s inspiration is infused in every aspect of the creation, from product design, shade selection, to campaign visual. We even created together a campaign video, which Chris is featured in. I can’t wait to share with the world this playful, joyful and colorful collection.”
So, as you can see, we’re in for such a colour burst – it really is an absolute joy to look. I love the use of the word ‘maximalist’ – I’m minimalist by nature but actively seek colour blasts – my eyes need to see bright rainbows like this and it’s genuinely given me a rush of happy. Endorphins for eyes. I’m suddenly thinking that maybe colour therapy isn’t all hokum.
