Les Perles de Chanel Nails swatched

After the disappointment of Riva (too watery and insipid), I’ve now given the nail polishes from the Les Perles collection a test run. I’m not sure what’s up with Chanel right now, but they’ve never got back on form nail-wise since Jade. I do like Pearl Drop – a golden pearl, but Black Pearl just isn’t doing it for me in the way I expect from Chanel. Certainly, pearlised greys have been done better – this one almost has greenish undertones. I’ve swatched both above (excuse the dreadful state of cuticles but it’s for colour information, not to admire my manicure!). I’d really like to see Chanel pull another Rouge Noir out of the hat – it’s high time. Noticing the trend for nail foils, though, it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s their next move – and that really would be something!

Black Pearl is a huge hit here in the US. In regards to that green tinge you see in it, that’s the way it’s supposed to be. It’s not a straight up gray. (And, it’s not almost black as your picture shows.) It’s deep gunmetal gray has hints of green and blue in it because Chanel was trying to emulate black Tahitian pearls. The only criticism I have is that it takes three coats to achieve good coverage.

Is it out in the UK now? There’s something about black pearl that I really like!

Does Chanel nail polish really last for two weeks?

I’ve heard the vaguest hype about it in beauty magazines and on a make over show, any truth to it?

Have you been digging in the back yard?
