It’s that time. The sting of a chill in the air and darkness coming too quickly in the evenings – it’s easy to just want to hibernate. I find I have to push myself to do things in a way I never have to in the summer time, but it’s important to focus on the good and pleasurable things about this season, too.

I find the cocooning delight of a hot bath is a perfect wind-down; a chance to relish that it’s cold outside and yet inside, you have made a cosy sanctuary, even if it’s only for half an hour. Rebalancing your mood and equilibrium, morning and evening, are moments of self-focus that help you to push through.

I’m a big believer in the power of aromatherapy – the art of using aromatic essential oils to improve mood, or at least nurture the senses. I like the simplicity of it – unlike complex layered fragrances, essential oils smell of the thing they’re supposed to so in that way, it’s easy to pick out the oils that you know make you happy or relaxed. Tisserand Aromatherapy is a regular in my bathroom: a slosh of the new Lavender & White Mint Bath Soak is to hot water what gin is to tonic. A perfect pairing.

One of the things that I love about Tisserand Aromatherapy is that it’s affordable – you don’t have to save it for ‘best’ because it’s priced for every day. All blends are 100% naturally fragranced (and the brand uses 99% natural ingredients) and pre-blended products have been created by experts who really know how to match high quality oils with mood enhancing. There is no ‘seeking the scent’ – as soon as you open the bottle, you know it’s there, but there are hidden surprises too; botanical extracts that soothe and condition the skin.

The key new bath and body ranges are Rose & Geranium Leaf, Lavender & White Mint (my favourite, and exclusive to Waitrose HERE) and Neroli & Sandalwood. Each range is comprehensive, from bath soaks and washes to soaps and deodorants so you can incorporate that little ‘hit’ to the senses multiple times a day even if you can’t find time for a long steep in a hot bath. If you’re a mister (no, not a Mr!), there are three new mood mists from the award winning Wellbeing collection – Sweet Dreams Pillow Mist (good for a guest room), De-Stress Mist and Energy Mist (that’s mine!).

Sometimes, it’s not about the grand and lengthy bathing experience – that time doesn’t exist for many people every single day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make the smaller aromatherapy gestures count. The warm water hand wash that floods your nose with beautiful notes, a speedy slather of hydrating hand cream after a frosty walk, or misting around your favourite sofa spot before you settle for the evening – they all matter.

Prices for the new Tisserand Aromatherapy ranges begin at £4.50 and you can find them HERE.
