bareMinerals Statement Lip

I have to remind myself all of the time which company owns which brands because things keep changing – bareMinerals is owned by Shiseido (Laura Mercier, NARS) – and with the recent news of NARS going into China, I feel slightly nervous about bareMinerals. Their newest launch of 25 Statement Lip products is stellar – I really think it’s unexpected, excellent quality and truly puts to bed the idea of it being a dusty mineral make up brand.

Putting my own personal wish for matte lips to disappear forever, if you do love a matte lip, I think you will be swayed by the intensity of colour and silky finish of the ten new Matte Liquid Lip shades (£17). I found them slightly slow to dry but to me that indicates an extra level of moisturising. Almost no matte product is moisturising on me so I can’t hold myself as the best judge, but I have tested a lot and these are better than most.

Shades from bottom to top are: Luxe, Fresh, Shameless, Juicy, Fire, VIP, Naughty, OMG, Flawless and Devious.

Much more in my comfort zone is the 10 strong line up of Luxe-Shine Lipsticks (£18).

Although the Luxe-Shine Lipsticks are described as weightless, I’d say that this is not quite the case. There is a tiny bit of tack to the finish. I think the term ‘weightless’ really means a different thing with advent of new formulas – there are some products that truly do feel like air on the lip but these don’t fall into that category. Thereafter, it’s all good. Special note for the shade Tease: a peachy nude with a gold shot – so pretty.

In the swatch from bottom to top: Tease, Biba, Rebound, Alpha, Flash, Srsly Red, Hustler, Frenchie, Elite and NSFW. I think the colour saturation is obvious – the formula is glidey and high pigment and the finish is more shine than sheen, but it’s not glossy exactly.

Of all lip products, a lip liner is the thing that interests me the least, but these are honestly lovely. They’re creamy, didn’t snap in swatching (and believe me, so many do – especially the ‘gel’ versions) and gave such a good colour lay down. They’re probably the most impressive lip liners I have seen in recent years, so if liners are your thing, definitely take a good look at these. There are five shades coming (£14).

Whoops.. please ignore the wobbly last one! All liners are a swatch nightmare if a straight line is a challenge! Shades from bottom to top are: Graphic, Kiss-A-Thon, 100%, Genius and Wired. They’re actually called Under Over Lip Liners which is self explanatory and they’re soft enough to be beautifully blendy to get a seamless line.

The bareMinerals Statement Lip collection is launching at Boots on 17th August and then going nationwide from 7th September.
