Melvita ProSun Self Tanning Cream

I get a lot of stuff I’m quite indifferent about through my letter box, but thought I’d share this genius little thing from Melvita that I got today. It’s an iced biscuit with a note to remind you that ProSun doesn’t have that familiar ‘biscuity’ self tan smell and it really made me smile. A lot of self-tans have got rid of the smell quite well, but not all, and there is usually something underlying the fragrance over the top.

Actually, Melvita ProSun is my absolute favourite self tanner.. I rarely use anything else. It’s quite gentle, so you won’t be going deep bronze with this, but if you like your self tan very natural looking and light, then it’s for you. It’s the best I know for non-streaking, and also for making your post-holiday tan look like it’s lasting for nearly ever because it is so natural looking. It doesn’t have the baking smell because it uses Erythrulose (derived from cane sugar) rather than DHA (sometimes also derived from sugar or beet) to give a tan look; but it’s also got safflower, coconut and sunflower oils so it really moisturises at the same time, unlike DHA based tans that can be quite drying. It does have a scent; it’s more vanilla-ish than anything.

Last year it was nigh on impossible to get hold of because there was such run on it – I tried three times at the shop last summer in Covent Garden but it was always sold out. So, I’d stock up if you’re planning to try it. It’s £20 HERE.

I have used this product before. It worked well on my arms, but I didn’t really notice any difference when using on my legs. I was quite disappointed on that front.
But totally agree with you on the smell, much nicer.
A really light easy cream to use and it soaks in quickly too

  2. I’m looking for a new self tanner but mainly for my face. Is this any good on the face, or does it tend to break you out??

well it doesn’t make me break out but I am not prone to break outs anyway.. it might be a bit rich for the face if you are prone. x

  3. This made us giggle! We hate the evil burnt biscuit smell! Always a fake tan give away. We would love to try this product sounds fab!

  4. It’s wonderful that this is non-streaking (who likes streaks right?) But the price is high. Have you tried Jergens? Works really well too, and also tans gradually.

Another excellent PR mailing, I love reading posts about them. I look ridiculous with a tan, but the one time I did try it I hated the smell and it really put me off. Don’t think I’m going to try a tan again anytime soon, I like being a pale girl

  6. Thanks for this review! I would love to try this product, this is just perfect for the Spring! Ha Ha, anyway, I love the idea that it doesn’t have that “Biscuity or baking smell”. I guess this is the right product that I’m looking for, thank you so much!

    Dear Jane,

I was sent some Melvita products as I couldn’t go to the press launch and I really like the lavender hand cream, a rich and lovely scented cream and the Nectar de rose hydratant (moisturizing rose nectar). Will have to try this self tanning product.
