L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks

MORE masks! Obviously, I can’t test all of the masks that are coming through at the moment – I love a mask so it’s always a happy test and I do put a fair few through their paces, so the one I picked out from the trio of L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks is the Glow Mask (the reddish one) and while I wouldn’t indicate it for sensitive skin, it’s extremely good for brightening and exfoliating. I can’t at all get into masks for ‘long term’ effects – the reason I’m using a mask is because I want something to happen right now – and these masks are all about what happens in the now (although I notice that one of the packaging claims is that after a week your pores will feel tighter.. feeling tighter is no use to anyone!). Glow is quite gritty – you’ll certainly notice that it has a coarse feel to it.

You should leave the mask on your skin for up to 10 minutes and then remove with a damp flannel. With the Glow mask, although it doesn’t say so on the packaging, rub it around a bit on your skin to get the exfoliation – you’ll be able to judge by the feel how much is right for you, but crucially, don’t over-do it. It’s rather perfumed (they all are) and doesn’t have the traditional earthy scent that clay based masks often have.

Each mask has the same base of Kaolin, Montmorillonite and Ghassoul clays but it’s what’s added in that helps them target more individual needs. So, Glow has red algae, Purity has eucalyptus and Detox has charcoal.

There’s something of a ‘buyer beware’ issue on the packaging that isn’t immediately obvious when it’s sitting on a shelf – the actual pot of mask is literally half the size of the packaging and the lid is more or less the same size as the pot.. so you get half again!). These masks are £7.99 each which I think is very reasonable for a 10 dose pot so there’s no need to make it look more than it actually is. I was impressed with Glow for refreshing my skin and making it brighter and smoother temporarily  – I used it in the morning so it’s no accident that afterwards my foundation blended like a dream and I got a compliment on how my skin looked.

I really love clay masks so I will probably end up buying all one by one. Although it looks like everybody releases masks at the moment.

Hi Jane would you be able to compare these to the new Vichy masks? I have a feeling they might be quite similar. Thank you

Hi there.. the only one that is remotely similar is the clay based one .. both of Vichy’s other ones are more of a sorbet/gel consistency – you’re right in as much as same ending different method because Vichy is also indicated for glow, hydratinng and cleansing, but the formulas are quite different x

  3. I Love clay masks, I’m looking forward to trying these.

These sound great – would certainly pick one up if it’s on offer/I am in need of a new mask!

The Pure Clay one looks a lot like the green clay mask that Lancôme used to make. With L’Oreal launching clay shampoo and conditioner and now masks I have this image of someone in purchasing having over ordered clay and deciding to put it in every new launch.

  6. Clay masks are the bomb and maybe this is perfect for me! I should try it though to see the effectiveness . Nice review. <3

This was a very interesting read. Useful!
I like how you emphasized the rather irritating use of the carton to incite selling. In German there’s a new term for it, because it happens so often “Mogelpackung” (cheating packaging), which is used when only the size of the box is misleading, yet the content information is correct and thus makes it legal, yet “cheating”.
I would try the Glow one, depending on the price here. L’Oreal is usually much much more expensive than in UK.

we call it ‘slack-fill’ over here and in the US x

    Any similar to GlamGlow’s offerings?

    1. Jane

      I would say they’re not as active…

        Thanks for the feedback Jane!
