Given that the Kat Von D UK launch is edging ever nearer, I thought I’d take a look this week at some of the products that will be on offer. I’m not all that familiar with the product quality or intensity, although I’ve been watching this brand grow and grow via Sephora in the US. I know Kat has a Too Faced Collaboration coming up (which seems weird to me.. but there you go) but no news whether that will be available in the UK.
I specifically requested to see some of the more challenging shades, because next season is ALLLL about challenging lip colours – I’m slowly coming round to the idea of a dark blue lip but I just can’t make green work in my head, never mind on my lips! So, we have L.U.V. (pink violet matte), Slayer (black matte) and Plan 9 (green opaque).
I haven’t tested these for longevity (it’s quite limiting if you’re not prepared to leave the house with black lips!) but more for comfort and pigment. With Slayer, it’s not a rich slick of black – you do have to work up to it, but once you have the density of black you require, it gives a smooth application that for a matte shade, doesn’t feel particularly drying. Black and dry lips isn’t ever going to be a pretty thing so I suggest if you are giving this (or either of the others) a go, you need to do so exfoliating and hydrating prep first.
The other two shades – L.U.V. and Plan 9 perform equally well in terms of comfort – the texture feels rather buttery when you apply (they’re very strongly and sweetly scented though) although Plan 9 is the most moisturising of the three with a hint of metallic sheen – there is a definite drag with the other two which are also matte but slightly dryer in texture, however, I can say easily that I’ve experienced worse! I’m not sure I would consider Plan 9 to be properly matte; more demi. There are around 36 shades launching, so I think there will be something for everyone – including a shimmering navy blue, Poe. No, you don’t get away from that trend so easily! I love the look of the lipsticks – glossy, black and studded and I don’t know of any others quite like them.
The Kat Von D range is launching into Debenhams in September.
