It has taken such a long time to date this particular product – I’ve been to some very strange sites in pursuit of a definitive date.
The Dior Pretty Charms Secret Lip Gloss is still in perfect, shiny nick, all wrapped up in a velvet (ish) drawstring bag.
It’s basically a heart-shaped locket with lots of little crystal balls and other shapes hanging from it on a silver chain.
The whole thing is rather chunky but I guess would make a nice bag charm. Quite often, these Dior special editions tied into a bag collection but I can’t find anything to indicate that. I’ve looked at Dior Runway 2006 (John Galliano at the helm at the time) and there were a lot of bubbly organza pieces and a pink colour theme so perhaps the inspiration came loosely from that.
Inside, the heart is ‘broken’ into two halves with one side shimmery gloss and one side lipstick. This colour-way is called Pink Enchantment and it’s labelled 002 – 001 had a lilac lipstick and pink gloss. Weirdly, there seem to be quite a lot of these knocking about on resale sites – perhaps because it was so fiddly to use that they just stayed perfect – but I’ve seen them around the £50 mark in mint condition. Top ingredient in the both lipstick and gloss is diisostearyl malate – a blend of malic acid and isostearyl alcohol – which has a good safety rating but I don’t see it crop up on INCIs very often.
