Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine

Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine

I brought you a sneaky peek of the new Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine a few weeks back, when I just had Va Va Va Voom Violet to show you, but now the whole set has arrived I have got them all swatched up.

In truth, these are a bit weird to start with – the delivery mechanic is quite clumsy in that you’re never quite sure, when you twist the bottom of the pen, quite how much gloss you’re going to get. There is a bit of practice involved. Because the nib is rigid, you don’t get that soft feel as you would a doe’s foot applicator and I think a doe’s foot does it better – why mess with something that really works?

Saying that, the gloss is immense, and so is the pigment. If you love glosses, this is truly happy time! In the swatch from left to right are: ‘Normous Nude, Jumbo Jem, Super Scarlet, Powerhouse Punch (this is my absolute favourite), Portly Peach, Va Va Va Voom Violet, Goliath Grape and Pink & Plenty. The claim on the US site that they last for hours is optimistic at best – they last as long as you let them (drinking, eating, lip licking) but the main sell is the plumping. I feel I did get some plumping – enough anyway to make my creased lips look a bit smoother but there is also a lot of light reflection going on and that always helps, too. You won’t get huge lips though and it’s a bit hard to tell whether the plumping was chemical or optical. They’re launching on 28th April in the UK for £18 although they’re already on sale in the US.

I’m a massive chubby stick fan but these scream hit and miss to me.

      Yes, I don’t think they’re for everyone x

I loved Clinique. Their products were always hit and miss for me. I only use their Liquid Soap. High Impact Mascara is my go to natural Mascara, but I have had products that didn’t work for me.
But I’ve had it to up here *do please imagine where up to I have had it* with Clinique’s PR rubbish-lingo.

First it were the BIY drops being advertised as “BB-Cream” if added to SPF (that’s not a BB-Cream).
Now it’s this: “Neu. Clinique Fresh Pressed System. Wie durch ein Wunder wird deine Haut sichtbar verfeinert, verjüngt, ebenmäßig und glatt.”
“Like a miracle your skin is visibly finer, younger, even and linefree (glatt is the German beauty lingo for linefree; literally it means “even” as well)”.
Isn’t this the kind of phrasing people start suing about?
I mean, we live in 2017 and there’s a good brand promising that my skin “will be younger”. What are they? Timelords?

I’m just fed up with this. I have no problem with advertising language if it is trying to be honest: “your skin looks younger” “it appears line free” but not “it will be”.
I find that horribly untrostworthy, and I find Clinique are getting worse by the minute.

And that’s such a shame, as I really liked their brand per se.
I will certainly still be buying my staples, but not trying out something new.

  3. I’ve been excited to see how these look! I’m unsure what to think right now as they just look like lip glosses to me, nothing really different from what is out right now I guess.

Still they look lovely for lip gloss lovers! ^_^
