[unpaid/sample/ad/affiliate] Wow – if you like your fragrances punchy and spicy this fits the bill! Sparkling Opal from Thameen is a blend of pepper, saffron and nutmeg up top with orris and jasmine in the middle.

I get a lot of powder and rose through on this but the initial impression is very much about the spices which are smooth, sweet and powerful – impactful, even. It’s the base, however, that dominates – the woods are so present that I’m reminded of antique wardrobes and that sort of ‘stately home’ scent. Leather and vanilla give it the roundness it needs but have a lot to contend with – sandalwood, musk, amyris and guaiacwood. There’s nothing about this you would describe as wishy-washy or a suit-all because it’s so big and bold – you will love it or you won’t and I can’t see there being any middle ground. Sparkling Opal is for the fragrance connoisseur – anyone who is drawn in by complexity and nuance and likes their fragrance very present. The last is extraordinary – you will probably still smell it the following day. It’s £195 (yikes) HERE, non-affiliate HERE.

Sounds stunning, perhaps this is more of a cool weather scent? Every now and then I like a really big, long lasting fragrance (leather armchair / incense / woody style) for that hug me, big enveloping feel and to admire the art and craft of perfumery. I just need to get a big velvety dress or similar to wear on the day… but not today! Lovely post as ever Jane. Thank you.
That’s such a great description – this IS your big velvet dress but sleeveless 🙂
Just what I need *ahem* eyes her treats budget. The orris and jasmine, saffron and woods say indulge me. On another matter do you happen to know if/when the new Chanel autumn (ssshhh) makeup will hit the counters?
I don’t know Chrissie – communication with that brand is a bit hit and miss just now – had an email this morning to say the Boy range is about to hit the stores.
Thanks Jane. I hope they are back in touch soon. Boy is such great branding. Just had a look online and the Boy nail colours are £31 for 13ml. Eek! Surely an error..
wow.. that’s a lot!
