Even though the Russian Leather fragrance isn’t for me, I feel quite pleased that Molton Brown has produced another masculine range (or unisex if you like deep, black tea and leather infused products). Sometimes I think Molton Brown can be a little ungenerous on the amount of fragrance that they give but I could certainly not say that of this. It’s power-packed, particularly the EDT.
So, notes are elemi, black tea and purple basil, Siberian pine, tobacco, birch, vetiver, leather and cade. To me, the black tea, tobacco and leather are the most predominant notes, alongside cade, which is a woody smoky scent. Somehow, despite sounding as though it smells like some fusty gentleman’s club chair, it’s rather modern and exciting. It’s much more a wintery, country walk, snuggly jumper kind of aroma (I’ve now just gone on a weird tangent in my head thinking of 1970’s knitting patterns for men’s fisherman’s sweaters!) and it’s easily one of Molton Brown’s strongest launches for a long while. I think it’s a universal man-pleaser, great man gift, and kind of sexy in a rugged, wood cutter, outdoorsy pursuit kind of way – you can find it at John Lewis HERE.

I really like this one, quite tempted to combine it with rose though! Xxxx
I tried it last week in a Molton Brown store, it was exclusive to Harrods for a while before that. I actually really liked it then when it dried down made me think of SJP Stash which I already own.
I am wearing the Mesmerising Oud today and its also a real powerhouse.
It sounds to me it might be similar to my fav Coeur de Noir by BeauFort London.
Great review and site – MB’s Russian Leather is great in the autumn/winter – try burning the candle on a cold winter’s night, wrapped in a blanket while watching a period drama, makes for a great experience!
