YSL Beaute has gone blue for spring. I think it’s one of the most difficult colour schemes to wear on eyes (and always reminds me of the 1980s) but its so in keeping with the brand’s heritage that I see why it comes about. I like it when brands use their heritage for inspiration (Chanel does it best, every single time, but Dior and Guerlain are close runners) and you only need to look at the YSL Gardens in Marrakesh, designed by Jacques Majorelle and subsequently bought and maintained by Yves St Laurent and his partner, Pierre Berge in 1980, to see where the foundations of this palette begin. Gold and blue with an accent wash of pink in the Collector’s Palette (£42.50) don’t make for a particularly easy eye look but I love a dark navy smoky eye and also love pink shadows – the more you play about with this, the more the possibilities arise.
The Kinetic Blue polish went straight on my nails – it’s a gorgeous pop blue that looks vibrant on my nails but it was a tough choice because I also love Op Art Coral. There is a pop art theme to this collection although to me it’s more mediterranean garden to me than anything. The nail polishes are £19.50 each.
The swatch above is the gold liner, Or Radical (£19.50) which I found really difficult to get a fine line with, followed by the Couture Collector’s Palette (and a horrible bump on my arm – those pop up when I’ve swatched and removed too much). I know that people love the Collector Palettes (this has a decorative lid – see below) but I don’t know how well this one will do – the polishes though? They’ll probably sell out in record time! I really love that navy eyeshadow with the frosted pink and blue – probably not colours that would like my face too much, but on a different face I can imagine creating some gorgeous looks with these!
The inky blue is stunning but hate all the others. Most blues just provoke an immediate feeling of misery& neglect.
