CHANEL Spring Summer 2023

[unpaid/sample] Well, this is a great start to the week – CHANEL Spring Summer 2023! And if you think it all looks a bit on the warm side, remember what copper colours do to blue eyes – nothing enhances them more.

CHANEL SPRING SUMMER 2023

The main item in the collection is Le Rouge Yeux Et Joues in two versions, Tendresse and Caractere. I have Tendress here but if you have deeper tones than me, opt for Caractere. Each one contains three matte shades and one satin – all new colours for the brand. As you will see from the rest of the collection, the theme is red. One of the suggestions is to ‘blend all the way to the temples for a halo of colour’ – I can’t tell you, unless you’re about to be photographed for a Vogue feature, how much I contest this advice, especially if you’re en route to Sainsbury’s. It’s £70 HERE.

The absolute star, in my view, is this Noir Allure Mascara in Rouge Grenat. It’s a colour that anyone can wear and you will be surprised at how dark it looks once on the lashes. If you have pale lashes and aren’t keen to replicate a Tilda Swinton stark eye (although please do – it’s beautiful!) add a light coat of brown underneath. I think, although haven’t tried it yet, you could use a cotton bud or similar to put a coat of soft brown kohl on your lashes and then lock it in with the mascara. It’s easily one of the most wearable coloured mascaras that I’ve used and gives a soft, aubergine-red-ish tinge to the lashes. I have used a brown kohl on my inner rims – colours, in my view, always need a deep shade ‘carrier’ to make the most of them.

CHANEL SPRING SUMMER 2023

Exhibit A above – I’d have no hesitation in saying snap this one up HERE before they all sell out. It’s £37 so into treat territory but oh my, it’s lovely.

CHANEL SPRING SUMMER 2023

My next recommend is the Baume Essential in Rouge Frais. I’ve run this over my hand so many times trying to find a good description for it – landing on ‘illuminating peach with copper notes’. It’s extremely wearable as blush, highlight or lip sheen. I’m wearing it on my lips and as highlight over the lighter peach shade from the palette. You could, oily lids permitting, wear it as a sheer glaze over the lids. It’s £36 HERE.

There’s a rather beautiful Stylo Yeux in Or Rose – a copper pink. It’s butter soft and glides like oil on the skin but I’m not sure how I’d wear it, personally. I think it’s perhaps lovely as a single line on the upper lid, snuggled up to the lashes and then a coat of brown or black mascara. It’s £26 HERE.

CHANEL SPRING SUMMER 2023

I’m sorry the nail polishes are slightly blurry – grr – they’re Watermelon and Rouge Cuir. Watermelon is a wash of vibrancy but its transparent and I’m never truly sure about those – any little bit of dirt you get under your nail then shows so perhaps avoid if you’re a gardener. Rouge Cuir is more of a terracotta – a sort of brown-red – and of the two is my preference. They’re £25 each HERE.

CHANEL SPRING SUMMER 2023

So, that’s my round up of the new collection. It seems smaller than previous ones – something I’ve really noticed across the board with luxury brands (Dior’s is so woeful, I didn’t even call it in – it looks like an edited amalgamation of everything they’ve ever done before and it’s rare I feel I have absolutely nothing to say about a collection). Will you be buying anything?

CHANEL

Whoops – nearly forgot the swatches! Bottom to top: Baume Essentiel in Rouge Frais, Stylo Yeux in Or Rose, the palette (no names other than light, dark, medium) and Mascara in Rouge Grenat. See what I mean about possibly not taking your eyeshadows to your temples? 🙂

Lovely review Jane. I looked at this collection in store and it’s a pass from me. These tones aren’t my colours for eyeshadow for sure. Love the mascara though.
I have some of these eyeliners and the wear seems to vary by colour. They are definitely not waterproof / water resistant in my book.
I wish sometimes for the classic blues and greens that were around a few years ago for spring / summer. It would make a change from the warm / red tones.
I am hoping something fresh may come from les Beiges for summer so let’s cross our well manicured gardening fingers (guilty here too) x

I’m quite happy to see these tones but I am warm toned in summer – can totally see why it’s not for everyone though. Yes, I can’t wait for Les Beiges either!

Hate to tell you nothing, but this year’s Les Beiges is nothing special, just repromotes in the main. Angela van Rose did a sneak peak a few weeks ago on her YouTube channel. Most disappointing.

I haven’t bought anything from Chanel since the tweed eyeshadows last autumn, there’s just been nothing since that has appealed to me.

Conversely, I love the Dior summer collection and have just bought the Eden Roc palette. It’s just lovely, the blue shade is gorgeous and such a lovely change from pink and red. I loathe red eyeshadow!!

Ohh, that’s a shame – I was looking forward to it. But, I think I would probably just fall back to what I normally use from that collection which all now permanents. I just didn’t like the Dior packaging – we’ve seen it a million times before and it’s a fashion brand, I bet they’re not bringing that level of nothing to their clothing :-))

I don’t often spontaneously buy things but feeling a bit down, it’s a Monday and I know I can trust your reviews – bought the red mascara as a pick me up! Can’t wait to try! Thanks for the thorough review as always

Oh sorry to hear that – please let me know how you get on with it. A friend popped in yesterday while I wearing it and the first thing she said was that she loved my lashes!

So I’ve tried the mascara and tested it and I love it! It adds an extra “something something” to your eyes especially if you’re not a big eyeshadow wearer. I have similar colouring to you – dark hair and dark eyes but imagine it would look very striking on blondes too! I’ve even worn it to work and didn’t feel it was too much. 🙂

That’s great – yes it just rides the line between different but good different and too much!

  3. Emma

Please can you tell me what are you wearing on lips in the photo – it’s such a pretty colour. Emma x

Thank you – yes, its the Chanel Baume Essential in Rouge Frais x

  4. Agree with Chrissie’s comment above, I’m so over these warm red’y shades that I can’t wear, even tho I’ll miss out on opp to apply to temples
But there’s something about a Chanel nail polish and I quite like the look of Rouge Cuir.

Of the two, I prefer Rouge Cuir too.
