If you’re a regular reader of BBB you will know I’m a bit fake-tan shy! It’s not so long ago that I was phoned by someone who had inexplicably tanned one finger about ten shades darker than the rest of her face and body. I advised her to dip it in milk (full of enzymes) to take the intensity of colour out of it, but it’s exactly that kind of brown-finger accident that I never want to happen to me! And, it would. So I farmed out the latest Vita Liberata Intense Silken Self Tanning Mousse (in Dark) to an experienced self-tanner and friend, Georgina.
Consistency: it was a very dark, very ‘wet’ (i.e. very liquidy as opposed to moisturizing foam) mousse, that meant you had seconds to rub it in so had to be super quick and super efficient at blending.
Colour Guide: as er, mentioned- (and coming from a non-shy-tanner), this mousse was extremely dark… (I had the darkest level though, it does come in three levels). I eased up from waist up as I did not want to be tittered at, but back in the day I would have gone hell for leather for this. I was careful to ensure all the usual areas were nicely moisturized before hand, as again due to the very wet dark consistency, I would imagine this would be prone to serious cloying around any dry areas (elbows, knuckles etc).
Dry Time: The mousse didn’t dry as quickly and evenly as some of my preferred tans (evidence on the bed sheets)
Scent: Totally unoffensive, quite pleasant.
Rinse off: Very, very nice colour left behind. The water in the shower was reassuringly bright orange, so the original darkness was mostly guide.
End Result: Minimal scent, nice dark but not orange colour. Will see how long it lasts.
In Conclusion: does the product come with a VL mitt? If so I would be interested to see it, to see if it was better designed for applying the mousse. I think the price point is fine (rrp £22.50), and I think the packaging is lovely.
(NB: Tanning Mitts are extra at £4. You can find Vita Liberata HERE.)
