Shu Uemura Spring 2013 is very heavily influenced by Asia in that the colours are maybe a little bit too pale for our tastes. However, the palette I have is the palest of the three and it’s more about what you do with it, I guess. I think that by the time spring comes we will be craving these pastels.
The collection is by Yuji Asano, chief international make-up artist for Shu Uemura. Tips for this collection from Yuji include, “Graduation is essential for make-up, because it looks unnatural if make-up doesn’t fit the face itself. Through graduation, make-up blends into the skin and it looks as if the entire skin-tone itself is glowing in its colour.” Right then, better brush up on graduating.
There are some stunning aspects to this collection; notably the rainbow lashes that I showed last week and also the glosses that include a lemon shade and a sheer iridescent as well as palest pink and peach. I think you’re either going to love it or hate it and a lot of how you wear this collection will be down to application skills – which doesn’t seem to me to be all that consumer friendly.
But, just wait for a blue sky day when the sun is shining and these colours will seem like the most natural shades in the world.
