The women’s set (in pink) comes with twelve sampler sizes of fragrance and a little pouch to keep them in. On the Sephora site it does show the box open so you know what you’re getting, but I still think it’s a little bit cheeky to show the bottles on the outside when there are just vials inside. If you didn’t check properly you could quite easily think there were mini-bottles inside.
But, the vials at least are pretty and the little bag is always useful. This cost $50.
This is the male sampler set – again twelve vials and a post-shave gel from Jack Black but I have no idea what a ‘scent certificate’ is. This was also $50. I think they’re really lovely sets and the little vials are great for chucking in a pocket or handbag.
But, what is my house going to smell like on Christmas Day?!

Think the idea is that the recipient uses the samples and then decides which full size bottle they’d like to exchange the ‘scent certificate’ for – sadly I guess this could only be done at Sephora. Essentially a safe way to buy fragrance as a gift, if you don’t know what they wear. It’s a great idea. Wish Boots/Debenhams/John Lewis would do something like this in the UK. Sure they will love them!

Leanne is correct. You try the scents and then redeem the certificate for a bottle of your favorite. I received one of these last year.
Oh Sephora, why oh why are have you still not come back to the UK. We miss you so much.
I’m from Canada and at our local drugstore, Shoppers Drug Mart, they have been doing this fragrance sampler for years. You simply purchase the box and then pick one fragrance, bring in the ‘scent certificate’ for a full sized perfume/cologne (sizes vary depending on what they specify on the box). It is definitely a great gift, easier than picking out a single scent since fragrances are a hard gift to give.
We also have mascara samplers, which includes Lancome, Elizabeth Arden, etc. and you get a half sized mascara in the box (7 of them and the box is $30). I think more companies should do these sampler sets, they’re a great idea.
The Perfume Shop has already had a stab at this with ‘Vivabox’ but for whatever reasons (tax, import shipping, profitability) our Vivabox only has 7 x 1ml sample vials, worth only 1 30ml trade in and is £40.
Like everything Stateside, the money conversion just wouldn’t make it work here. For that Sephora set to be sold in the UK it would cost £50 probably.
