N°1 De CHANEL Red Camellia Revitalizing Lip & Cheek Balm

[unpaid/sample] I am truly kicking myself for only requesting this shade – Healthy Pink – but I didn’t realise the CHANEL N°1 Red Camellia Revitalizing Lip & Cheek Balm would be as good as it is (I’m trying to cut down on products). I definitely want to try Red Camellia as well now I have an understanding of the texture. I’ll stand by my view that lip and cheek balms are only ever really perfect for one or the other and for me, so I’ll be wearing this mainly as a lip product.

The balms are part of a new diffusion line for CHANEL and will comprise skincare, makeup and a fragrance mist (will get this up soon). A main part of the N°1 line is environmental consciousness so the product weight has been reduced, glass replaces other materials where possible, some jars are refillable, plastic use is limited, paper leaflets have been removed (as has cellophane) and organic inks have been used.

The texture of the Revitalizing Balm feels at first too solid for easy lip wear but is quickly warmed especially if you use a finger to apply. Once it’s a little warmer, it glides over the lips and has the same feel that any good, nourishing balm would have in terms of comfort although undoubtedly it’s in the luxury category. There’s no waxiness, just a reassuring slip that doesn’t translate to a high gloss but more of a gentle sheen – light catchy enough to be flattering but not so shiny it can’t be worn on the cheeks.

The shade, Healthy Pink, is more of a neutral meets peach shade – actually perfect for the monochrome look (see my Instagram) so it’s beautifully understated without being wishy-washy. I think where N°1 Red Camellia Revitalizing Lip & Cheek Balm will come into its own as a cheek shade is in the summer months when skin is bare and the sheen will act as a natural highlight. For me though, it’s predominantly a lip product.

Here is it – you can see it’s a little dewy in the finish. Still kicking myself about the red but there are some YouTube try-ons floating about if you Google.

Great review Jane and the colour is fabulous on you! I am seriously contemplating a purchase but need to choose the right colour on this as it’s a considered purchase at this time of year, and glad to see you reviewing this brand 😉
Is the balm scented or have much flavour / taste so to speak? Merci xxxx

Hi Chrissie – no there’s no discernible scent or flavour x

A question: does “product weight has been reduced” mean…that there is less of it? Glass containers would weigh more than plastic…

I think particularly with premium brands they weight the packaging – glass or magnets – so it feels more ‘luxury’ so I’m guessing that they’ve not added those elements. So they haven’t used more glass to make it more luxury and glass is less heavy on the environment than plastic.

Confused, you talk about having the color Healthy Pink, but should have gotten Red Camellia… Then it looks like you are showing and describing the Healthy Pink and underneath the pictures it says, Red Camellia. Please clarify, thanks! I have been very interested in these, but can’t decide on which color to get.

Yes, I’m sorry, I see the confusion. So, the product is based around the plant extract of Red Camellia – it’s at the heart of all the No1 products – but the shade I’m using is Healthy Pink.

Thanks Jane! Healthy Pink looks like a nice neutral to start with for the Winter months.
