Did you know that throughout the ages, women have used beauty spots as secret messages? Much in the same way that Victorian jewellery is deeply symbolic, so are beauty spots but usually in a much more cheeky way. You can see by the chart above what each spot and its position means.

I think these are so sweet and pretty – but if you are to use them in their original context you probably need a partner who understands the symbolism; could be tricky. I’m imagining Mr BBB saying, “oh, you seem to have something stuck on your face… here, let me.. ”
Anyway, with or without the hidden meaning, I think they’re gorgeous even though I probably wouldn’t quite go there myself. You can find them HERE.

I love the idea of communicating with your beauty marks, and these look lovely. But they seem to be on sale for over $30 which seems very very overpriced for something you can draw on with eyeliner. Or just use stickers from WH Smiths 😛
Ha how cool 🙂 I have a real one on my right cheek (face cheek that is haha!) which I often feel like I should get removed but the cute/retro ad has made me realise that I am in-fact rather attached to mine.
Selfridges don’t have the Beauty Spots (not online anyway) and they seem to be the only UK stockist – shame, because these would make great presents!
They probably will do.. it’s early days, but you can order from the french site and they will ship x
I’ve checked all three French stockists and they don’t have them – don’t think you can order direct from the French site (only from the ‘where to buy’ links) x
okay, I’ll check back with Mily and leave you details here… xx
Okay, these will launch in Selfridges at the end of the month or beginning of April; if Mily can’t supply from France, keep an eye on their site.
One of my earliest memories was as a small child in the early 60’s watching my mum doing her make up and drawing her beauty mark in with a pencil just below her left eye. She used to wear max factor blue eyeshadow that was mixed with water and painted on, then black eyeliner with full upward ‘tick’, the beauty spot, lots of mascara from a block mixed with spit(!) and the most lovely smelling face powder. Very glamorous!
Mums over 70 now and is still makes up every day, but thankfully uses Christian dior mascara rather than the spit and mix version! She still looks fab though!
Sweet idea ! Not sure If I’d use them for myself but would for a shoot, I seem to remember that it is inpired by ‘”La carte du tendre” from a french mouvement (17th/18th) and “les precieuses” ladies that practised it. A way of communicating with lovers or would be lovers… 🙂
Thank you for the post x
PS would like tiny smily face lol
Would be super easy to make yourself …I have done heart , beauty spots etc…with pencils, black glitter etc..for photoshoots.
