Marc Jacobs Beauty

Marc Jacobs Beauty Teaser

Sephora USA is now running a countdown til the 9th of August when they launch the Marc Jacobs Beauty range (a teaser sent out by Marc Jacobs above).

How exciting! But, it’s just one more reason why we need Sephora back in the UK. When I think about when they were in the UK I think it was just too soon for that kind of shopping concept (an all beauty store). They also planted their stores mainly out of town (so, Bluewater in Kent for example) when ideally, an Oxford or Regent Street flagship would have been better.

We are used to the department store method of beauty shopping in the UK – being left to our own devices doesn’t come naturally, no matter how much we don’t like the counter experience sometimes. It would be nice to think that maybe Selfridges or John Lewis might come up with a little Sephora satellite store-within-a-store so that we don’t have miss out on things like the Marc Jacobs Beauty range. We missed the Karl range, we’ve missed the Pantone – there has to be room for an outlet of some kind in the UK.

Meanwhile, I can only drool over the picture of the Marc Jacobs Beauty nail polishes and hope that someone, somewhere is heading to the USA in August!

Sephora really needs to come back to the UK! I’ve been living in France/Italy this year and I’m going to miss Sephora so much when I’m back in England. I think people are pretty good at shopping for themselves in the likes of Superdrug and Boots, hopefully Sephora will realise we’re ready for them soon! Perhaps someone should start a petition…?

  2. What happened to Sephora UK originally? Did the dept stores gang up on it because they were losing money from it?

I don’t think I ever saw one, we only got a Space NK in Edinburgh a few years ago :p

I think they chose their locations poorly.. plus the concept of one-store for all beauty was so new.. don’t think the department stores ganged up..they didn’t have time..!

  3. I think I’m gonna to allocate one day of my trip to Vegas in Oct to a day in Sephora!

You do know that in most of the european countrys that have Sephora, we still don’t get most of the special lines that they have in the States. No Pantone, no Karl, just partif the permanent range and the usual make up like Loreal and Lancome. And parts of a few othet brands like MUFE and Benefit that you still have, greetings from Sweden buy the way.:)

Yes, I do know that but was encouraged that Sephora France had Karl!

Sephora is a beauty junkies delight, but sadly it didnt work commercially for them in the UK. The UK is different from most other markets because of the size of Boots. Other markets do not generally have such a large, well established and national health & beauty player to contend with.

    1. But Superdrug seems to do fine.. as does Space NK. Sephora is much closer to Space NK with its niche brands than boots or superdrug. Neither of them sell what Sephora would sell – there may not have been room 10 years ago but the market has changed significantly since then. Mainly thanks to bbloggers!

  7. I really wish Sephora were in the UK. I once sent them an e-mail in my best garbled French asking them to bring it back, and the response I got back was so formulaic and unhelpful that it was sad (if I recall correctly, it just told me to ring some French customer service number and didn’t actually say anything about whether they were going to return to British soil).
