Manuka Doctor Facial Oils

One of my big beauty bug-bears (but I have loads!) is over-priced facial oils. I don’t care what’s in it, there is no facial oil in the entire world that needs to cost £97 (looking at you Rodin). So, these lovely new oils from Manuka Doctor, at £19.99 a pop are extremely good value and the quality is up there, too. Just disecting the Replenishing Oil for a moment, finds this list of ingredients:

Manuka Oil, Rose Hip Oil, Argan Oil, Evening Primrose
Oil, Cranberry Seed Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Hazelnut Seed Oil,
Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Sunflower
Seed Oil, Borage Seed Oil, Plum Seed Oil, Peach Kernal Oil,
Blackcurrant Seed Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil & Carrot Seed &
Root Oil.

They’re all skin loving oils with Manuka heading the list. What’s special about Manuka Oil? Well, bearing in mind that I haven’t put these oils to a long term test, although I can say they are divine on the skin although quite ‘oily’ so you need to not mind that particular sensation, Manuka oil comes from the leaves and brances of the L. scoparium manuka tree in New Zealand. Antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, with suggestions that Manuka oil may be useful in treating excema and acne. Active components of Manuka oil are Trichetones, Flavesone, Leptospermone and Isoleptospermone.  It’s also known as the ‘jelly bush’ or ‘tea tree’, but it’s not that tea tree! The final piece in the jigsaw is that the trees are where honeybees gather nectar to make Manuka honey!

Whichever way you look at it, Manuka Doctor Facial Oils are fantastic value so look out for them when they launch in August.

How does Manuka come at the top of the list? It’s an essential oil… Should be last…

Ive been looking for a new facial oil for ages- as you say some are so pricey and the bottles are sometimes so small so you dont get much product! Id be really interested to know what the scent is like in these- I tend to use an oil at nighttime so I like something with quite a relaxing smell- nothing too potent. Do you know what size ml these are Jane?

They’re 30ml and not highly fragranced – gently floral, I’d say.

  3. I’ve always been interested in trying facial oils but I’m too scared too as my skin is so oily!

  4. Hey Jane, just wondering what oil or night cream you would recommend for sensitive skin, can’t use Clarins oils, have had reactions to these. I used This works night cream last week which irritated the bejayus out of my skin, even though the shop assistant said it was perfect for sensitive skin, I know different strokes and all that. Thanks, Marian.

Hi Marian, in these circumstances, I always recommend Avene – it’s not glamorous as such but if you have sensitive skin then you’re going to have to address it properly. Have a look at Avene Hydrance – it sounds like it might be a solution as a night cream. There’s also a newer brand called SW Basics that is very pure, using the minimum of ingredients. I think Selfridges have it on their site. x

I love these facial oils. but was very upset when I took them on holiday with me as they leaked all over. The tops are not very well fitted and come loose.
I have informed Manuka about this problem but have had not reply as yet.
