MAC Is Beauty

Oh, and I’ve been doing so well with MAC recently! But, I just don’t really ‘get’ the MAC Is Beauty Collection. Maybe it’s just the shades that I have but I’m not seeing it doing anything over and above other collections – most notably Wash & Dry. However, it does have a lot of limited edition shades in it so if you’re a MAC collector, you’ll have to have a look. There’s one major problem that I have with it though, and you’ll see below.

So, first up, the lipsticks. I have Silly, a bright pink matte, and Diva-Ish, an intense fuchsia sheen. They’re both what you could call big smacks of MAC in terms of pigment and if you love your pinks, unmissable. There are 12 lipsticks (£15.50) in the MAC Is Beauty Collection.

The lighter shade is Silly, the darker is Diva-ish.

Okay, so here’s where I have a bit of a problem with MAC Is Beauty. What IS that boob doing? For a collection that is supposed to be about pampering, glamour and being high maintenance (I’m all for that), I’d love to know how a random, lace clad breast represents that image. The photo suggests that the woman-with-the-boob is the beautician and the other women are the pampered customers. It’s all very well to be creative and artistic with your photography but let’s not suggest – ever – that there might be more to the beauty therapy industry than there actually is or that women who work in the beauty service industry might be metaphorically boob flashing at the drop of a hat. It’s just a little off, especially when therapists all over the land are some of the hardest working members of the beauty industry, and feels like I’ve entered a grubby fantasy akin to the window cleaner catching the housewife naked. I’ll bang money on it being taken by a man!

I’ve taken the swatch of the Eye Shadows (£13)  in the light so you can see the reflection of Bouffant, which is a sheening shell pink. The other shade is Preening – a matte pistachio.

As I say, MAC Is Beauty is a very large collection, so there are plenty of new shades and limiteds to choose from when it launches in June at all MAC locations.

  1. I don’t know if I would ever choose Preening as a colour to put on my eyelids. Maybe I’m not out there and not creative but I would just never use it.

  2. Love the shade “silly” looks really pretty! x

I’ve got a matte green eyeshadow very much like that from e.l.f. I like it as a wash across the lid and brow, just on its own.
Yes, is the photo suggesting that the make up artist is high maintenance also, because she’s wearing a lace bra? And what does it say about who they think their customers are?
