Lush 2023 Advent Calendar Review

[unpaid/sample] I don’t see Lush products very often but have to say that if you are a Lush fan this bright and bountiful box is something quite splendid. It’s not really a brand that I align with but they came to my attention for shedding over 100 products that they didn’t see as essential to the brand. This is what so many brands should be doing – not over-producing in a never ending cycle of newness and ceasing to produce products for the sake of keeping them going. I know that the brand can elicit controversy but I can’t fault their eco credentials, especially when it comes to packaging reduction – thinner bottles for one, but all that nesting that you see in the box is totally reusable or recyclable and allows for less protective packaging for the products within the calendar.

Every single part of this calendar is recyclable – I love the colours and the vibrancy of it. It’s a very joyful thing to look at. When it comes to contents, it’s all the things that Lush fans would want to find, from their best selling Dream Cream through to Candy Cane Lip Balm in a mix of festive and practical products.

The window sheet sits over the nested boxes and you perforate them to get inside – you can lift them easily to reveal the carefully hidden products.

The thing that Lush fans will get excited about with this advent calendar is the re-appearance of some retro products that you can only get in the box and box exclusives such as Christmas Morning Bubble Bar, Marzibain Bubble Bar and Cinders Shower Gel (smells almondy – not overpowering).

Bath bombs? Yes, indeed! But only three and they’re fun. You’ll also find a candle, a fragrance, body lotions and soap but the main emphasis is on washing – bath and shower are strong in this calendar. It’s quite pricy at £195 (and interestingly, they don’t give a ‘value’ price so I don’t know if this represents better value for money than buying the products individually) and of course, it’s completely vegan. There’s a full list of contents below but if you’re liking the look of it, it’s HERE.

Lush don’t generally discount their gift boxes and collections; if anything it’s slightly more as they charge you for the packaging.

I loved Lush ever since the Cosmetics to Go days, but their products are just so expensive – I believe a single bath bomb is north of a fiver these days.

I just don’t really come across it very often so can’t do any price comparisons but similarly, The Body Shop has hiked its prices… well, everyone has, let’s face it :-))))

      Most are north of £8!

I admit that Boxing Day the queue is around the block at LUSH as the Xmas gifts are half price.

Oh, really? I had no idea 🙂

Thanks for this information, Jane. I like many Lush products such as the Sweet Wild Orange hand cream and Lime Bounty body cream. Some people are saying their products stain hands and clothes. I think, however, their products are really over priced. Bubble bars cost around £7.50 and many bath bombs cost £5 plus. The body shop have ramped up their prices but they do a lot of GWPs and offer discounts. I am surprised

Lush look like they have problems:

One of the reasons I rarely feature is because there has always been an undercurrent of dissatisfaction from those who work there and some customers… on the one hand the brand has die-hard fans and on the other, there is always some controversy. I’ve also met Mark ;-).

I work for lush and we stripped 100 products because they were forever going our of date because they were terrible products, just to make room for more products and weird things that also don’t sell. Also we can’t provide proof that everything is 100% vegan due to the pesticides used, so be careful vegans! It’s a huge rip off too, the prices were raised by so much this year because Mark decided he didn’t make enough money because he didn’t quite hit 10 million, hence the price raise and no pay raise.

      That’s not great.
