Hera UV Mist Cushion

I’m quite intrigued by this product that I spotted on my favourite site for stocking up on Japanese and Korean brands, www.imomoko.com. It’s a liquid foundation soaked cushion, also with sunscreen, moisturiser and whitening essence. Amazingly, for such a ‘wet’ product, it is SPF50.

One of the key ingredients is mineral clay water; fine sea water clay particles melted into water which helps to hydrate the skin and give a cooling action. According to the site (and it’s not always accurate in translation to be honest), it helps to reduce dead skin cells, impurities and sebum. I think this is the kind of thing we’ll see next year as all the beauty brands wonder how they can flog a little bit more life out of the BB and CC concepts.

I have been using the Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion which is also quite moist and looks similar to the Hera Mist Cushion. It has SPF 50++, too. The only difference I see between the Laneige Snow Cushion BB cream and my other liquid foundations is that in hot, humid weather (Singapore), it stays on for a long time. The biggest minus of these products is that they give your skin a “white-ish” cast. Because I am Filipina and can become quite dark (after swimming in various Philippine beaches), this BB cream, like all the others, looks very artificial even when I find a shade that comes close. I don’t wear this BB cream when I am in Paris or California, only in SE Asia. But if you are pale to begin with, it shouldn’t be a problem. Korean and Japanese cosmetics companies encourage the obsession with “whitening” among women in their countries in order to sell them more useless cosmetics and skin care. Unfortunately, their foundations and powders do not suit most southeast Asian women (Thais, Filipinas, Indonesians) because they don’t have products that are dark enough. Result: SE Asian women end up wearing foundation and powder that give them an unnatural white-ish cast. And this is sad because many women in those countries have beautiful skin that is ruined by the unnaturalness of the products.
