Guerlain Christmas 2012: Liu

Jacques Guerlain’s original Liu fragrance created in 1929 was inspired by the character Liu from the opera Turandot. Its packaging reflects the Chinese setting. The fragrance itself is an aldehydic floral with notes of rose, vanilla, iris and woods and the Christmas make up range is both old-style glamour and modern sophistication.

But – the collection is divine with my pick of the highlights below:

Above, the star of the show – the Liu Eye and Lip Caligraphy Palette, £54. Three soft, soft shades of eye shadow and a matte black powder liner (wet or dry) with two gorgeous lips shades make it deliciously glamorous.

The two nail shades are a golden oyster pearl colour in Altoum and wine-y plum in Lou-Ling at £18.

The Liu Perfumed Shimmer Powder for Face, Body and hair, £50.50, is the finest scented golden shimmer – don’t do what I have just done and spray the shimmer then take a sniff to smell the fragrance; I have sneezed about twenty times – that has a powdery/floral scent. It’s so pretty and decadent and a very sumptuous addition to party beauty.

I am pretty sure that my camera hasn’t captured the shades very well on this Ecrin 4 Couleurs Long Lasting Shadow Palette, £37. They’re altogether more woody and smoky in appearance than they seem here.
Anyway.. as ever, Guerlain has brought decadence to beauty which is what Christmas glam is all about. It all launches into Harrods on 1st October and nationwide on the 15th.

  1. As far as I can tell from the various posts I’ve seen about this collection, Guerlain has done something intensely frustrating. While the collection is called Liu, it does not actually include the fragrance Liu which is only available at Guerlain stores. While all the pretty things are very desirable, I don’t ‘need’ any of them. I do ‘need’ a bottle of Liu.

  2. I agree Great She.. I actually had to question where the link was to Liu re make up.. it’s a long and complex story very typical of a French press release! It’s frustrating because it is a very beautiful collection that really didn’t need an over worked link.

  3. Looks like a nice perfume to own. I really love powdery/floral scents. 🙂

  4. Actually gasped at the last pic – love these kind of colours!
