Got to give a beauty high five to Marks & Spencer for making this Downton Abbey range rather witty as well as pretty. It’s difficult, with film and TV tie-ins to make them relevant in any way, but I love the clever quotes from Downton Abbey (Lady Mary is a genius at the memorable one-liner) that bring something extra to the products.
I think they’ve done a great job with the packaging – I haven’t actually tried the products yet (next week) but looking forward to doing so.
This could have gone so horribly wrong but it’s been so nicely thought out that I’m actually feeling there’s something missing from my house because it has no Downton soap.
These products, launching in October, are the first tranch of Downton tie-ins – the merchandising contract is for two years, so maybe we’ll see Countess of Gratham bloomers or Lord Grantham Y Fronts.. the mind boggles!
