If you love niche fragrances, this brand is going to mess with your soul. Founded by mother and daughter, Chantal and Alexandra Roos, Dear Rose is a range of five perfumes that will all take your oflactory senses to a new place.
The website is a little incomprehensible so bear with while I try and sort fact from fantasy. Starting with Bloody Rose – it’s an adventure in roses, I think we could say, mingled with ylang ylang and orange flower to form an extremely sophisticated feminine floral (On the site.. “freedom…I dare and decide those I love… I decide and I love you… and if you love me protect yourself”… what?). Next up is Sympathy For The Sun – an incredible name for an incredible fragrance – imagine barely salted jasmine flowers and you’re some way towards it.
La Favourite takes on spices – patchouli, oud, pink pepper and saffron – it’s for you if you don’t quite love oud but really, really want to! A Capella is probably the easiest to take on – a sweet blend of rose buds in a mix of fresh, green ivy and white woods – kind of reminds me of wearing a crisp, white shirt in an expensive hotel. I don’t know why! A million feminists sigh with disappointment, but the final fragrance is called I Love My Man. I know. But, it’s a very voluptuous, Bulgarian rose driven fragrance with a pinch of cinnamon and a teeny bit of tonka bean. It is magnificently sexy and a little bit edible – and I think, despite the name, I think it’s the one that your man would pick out for you for that very reason.
Dear Rose is only stocked at Harrods (from 26th October), so it’s well worth swinging by the counter to experience it – despite the cultural differences in how fragrances are verbally presented and expressed – I am pretty sure at least one of them will blow your socks off. They’re rather expensive at £105 a 100ml bottle, but these are some of the most original and impressive fragrances that I have seen for a really long time.
As a side note, the fragrances are created by nose Fabrice Pellegrin.
