The Ciate Monochrome Mani had all the makings of a very cool nail art set.. but for one thing! The look you see on the box is unachievable because the black polish isn’t black. I’ve tested it up to three coats and it won’t go past a charcoal grey. Bearing in mind that you need your polish completely set to add the stickers to create the designs, plus a white top coat to make the monochrome look, you could be waiting all day for those three or more coats of ‘black’ to set.
The wheel you see above has 3, 2 and 1 coats of the included black polish in the Ciate Monochrome Mani set – I know it’s on a white nail wheel and you’ll get a darker coating on a natural nail but it still won’t reach pitch black as seen on the box.
It’s such a shame that this time around the product isn’t delivering – I like Ciate Mani sets for being inventive and taking the pain and patience out of complex nail art..(imagine hand drawing the effects you see above). It’s £25 nobody need spend.

I love the idea of that kit but the black polish is so disappointing. I got to 4 coats and gave up with the black. The white looks nice along over a nude nail, they just really need to sort the formulation out on the black one!
That black is quite a let down! I hate applying more than 2 layers because it feels too thick and then just peels off, it’s a shame!

Oh no! I loved the look of this set, so what a shame the polish isn’t up to scratch!

I love Ciate polishes and I am a little bit disappointed….
Try Technic’s Jet Black instead, its only £1.25 and it’s the best black polish – really pigmented and applies evenly: http://www.lovethymakeup.com/nails-nail-varnish-product-technic-nail-varnish-jet-black-1843
