[unpaid/sample] I tend to hang on to product samples for a long time because you just never quite know when they might come in handy – perhaps for a discontinued make up feature like this for example. I found a couple of the old Clinique Chubby Mascaras in Black Honey the other day and tested them out on Instagram – they must be at least 8 years old (don’t worry – it came straight off) and it made me wonder what else I had from Clinique that no longer exists. Low and behold, CliniqueFIT make up.
If your memory escapes you, CliniqueFIT was a collection of make up products designed to wear during your work out or any exercise in general. Its USP was long last and breathability – other products included a 24 hour mascara (how long do they think we spend on a treadmill!), the SPF tint above, a dry shampoo and a lip and cheek flush. There was some controversy over normalising the need to wear make up during exercise, I remember.
I looked back at my 2017 review and said then that the range should be viewed as ‘an accessory to an active life, not an exercise companion.’ Skin doesn’t need anything on it for exercise (other than SPF if you’re outside) and you don’t need lipstick for the gym! Athleisure, beauty-wise, never really took off because there isn’t anything, beauty wise, that can’t be adapted or decanted easily for the gym bag.
I’ve got some of the SPF 40 tint on my hand (not my face) here and marveled at how liquid it was even after shaking. I think that must have been separation because nothing that thin can be SPF40. I remember that the lip & cheek product was more or less (or probably actually) Origins Pinch Your Cheeks in disguise (both brands owned by ELC) and at the time, Pinch Your Cheeks was completely (and suspiciously) out of stock, where the lip & cheek tint was in plentiful supply. Hmm! Do you have any much missed discontinued?

What I miss is the original Chanel Vitalumiere. I must have used it for over 10 years. The reformulated version is terrible in comparison (sob sob).
Really? That’s great feedback from someone who knows both iterations – thank you x
Awww, lovely article Jane. I miss the Clinique Chubby colour mascaras too. I wish they’d bring 3 or 4 shades back. I see Maybelline have launched 3 coloured mascaras which look fun (bright blue, soft burgundy and a pink).
I used to love Immanance by Lancome, a very glowy tinted moisturiser. It was great for this time of year when I start to give a new meaning to the expression ‘washed out’. Dior’s Mascara Parfait was my favourite for many years too.. the list goes on.
On the perfume front Calyx by Prescriptives needs to come back, as does Tuscany Per Donna. Happy memories!
Hope all is well with you and your family xxx
Chrissie, I’ve just bought a violet mascara. I’m going to check out the burgundy one but have a feeling it’s not got enough red in it. I don’t remember Parfait at all – how annoying since now I miss it too :-))))
I love violet lashes! I hope it will be a lovely shade. Mascara Parfait gave really good volume and had a great brush , plus it came in a lot of different shades. Come on Dior..
I never bought this, but was suspicious that it might be the same as the Clinique Anti Blemish BB Cream (SPF40, thin liquid that required shaking, even the packaging was the same shape, just a different colour). And I miss that desperately. I still haven’t found a replacement that is anywhere near as good.
oh good point.. this was exactly that – thin liquid that required shaking but I do not know how it could be SPF40.
Clinique did a wonderful hand cream, possibly called special hand cream I miss that and the herbal shampoo.
ohhh I think I remember the hand cream…
Calyx is still available at Harrods, but now produced by Cliinique. Still smells the same. Shame Estee Lauder ever dropped Prescriptives.
I thought it was still around – thank you for the reminder!
Is it now oooh, that’s great news Lesley. Thank you for this gem! I am going to pay them a visit.
