Beauty Business News

So… the rumours are that Coty are trying to get their hands on Kylie cosmetics, chasing a 51% share. WWD, who reported on it, couldn’t get comments from either party but the value of Kylie Cosmetics is estimated to be around $900 million.

Next has bought the Marie Claire beauty on-line store, Fabled. They’ve been gearing up to this for quite some time but it’s all signed, sealed and delivered. But, I hadn’t realised, because the thought never occurred to me – Fabled was actually owned by Ocado. Something to do perhaps with Ocado aligning with M&S and not wanting Fabled to cramp the M&S beauty style?

Physician’s Formula, at very, very long last, is finally going to be available in the UK. I still have my Marilyn Monroe palette that I bought in New York at least 15 years ago. I wonder if they still make it? It’s coming to Feel Unique – you can subscribe to be notified if you’re itching to get at it.

Interesting that Lulu Lemon has brought out skin care (or ‘self care’ as they call it). It’s really now only a matter of time before Sweaty Betty et all present skin care and beauty offerings as standard along with your leggings and yoga mats.

Something I’ve never had to report on before but might affect your favourite lip liner or kohl – a pencil production strike in Germany. Schwan Stabilo and Faber Castell are prominent white-label (i.e. make for other brands) producers of some of our favourite brand make up pencils. The strike is a low wage protest – pay them, pay them!

Coming soon to the heart of London, a beauty department store to rival the likes of Ulta. Located on Piccadilly, it’s scheduled for around about September time.

Trend Watch: beauty Facebook groups doing it for themselves… Mrs Gloss and The Goss create affordable beauty boxes for their community, while UKMakeUpAddicts are crowdfunding for a community built make-up palette.

Snippet: More UK beauty ‘influencer’ own-brands heading our way.
