Annick Goutal Creme Splendide

Annick Goutal Creme Splendide

Sometimes, a product is just about the luxury of the thing. Being sensible has to disappear. Annick Goutal has some of the prettiest perfumes around; I’m always very moved by Petite Cherie, a fragrance that Annick created for her daughter, Camille. It’s an expression of the sheer joy of having a daughter. Although Annick died in the 1990’s, Camille has taken the brand forward in the spirit of Annick. It’s a very feminine range so Annick Goutal Creme Splendide carries sweet, rose notes that wrap themselves around you – when I think of this fragrance, for some reason, a white shirt pops into my mind.

The texture of the cream is lush; silky, nurturing and highly moisturised. If you use it before bed, you go to sleep feeling you have done something very lovely for yourself and for your skin. However, as you might expect, it’s expensive – EU70 for this 200ml pot HERE. It’s difficult to find on-line in the UK but Annick Goutal counters may well have it tucked away (try John Lewis).

Annick Goutal’s perfumes have always been among my favorites. During the years I lived in Paris, her boutique was a regular stop for me. She was a lovely woman and everything about her shop — the decor, the service, and of course, the perfumes — was always impeccable. Just like the woman herself. I was so sad when she passed away, but I am thrilled to read that her daughter has carried on with her work. I’m sure this cream is wonderful, but I’ll probably buy it simply for the sentimental value.
