While it’s something of a myth that eye colour fades as we age, it’s true that they can lack the same brightness and sparkle. Your eye colour is determined by melanin pigments and, barring certain illnesses, will remain the same throughout your life.
It’s everything around your eye colour that changes, meaning that where your eye colour once seemed intense, it may not do so later on in life. The surrounding skin tone may change (at any age, actually, but progressively), your hair colour may change (again, at any age, and progressively) and the whites of your eyes can go slightly discoloured, not looking as bright white as they did. All this has a knock on effect on how your eye colour appears to those looking at you.

So, Acuvue have come up with Define lenses – pre-pigmented lenses that accentuates the dark line at the outer border of your iris. In turn, that creates more definition between the iris and the whites, making eyes look brighter. It’s really, really simple but a bit genius at the same time! The lenses also have highlights on them that add more contrast and depth – don’t worry, they’re so subtle that they’re way off ‘coloured lenses’.
I’m using a couple of contrast pictures so you can see the difference, and since my laser eye surgery effects are starting to wear off (I have had much longer than the promised 10 years on this treatment and would recommend in a heartbeat), they’re definitely something to consider. Nobody wants to wear contacts – I’m not sure anyone really wants to wear glasses either – but this definitely the kind of everyday product that can have a positive impact for the beauty+.

I have to wear glasses all the time. I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE having to wear them. They’re rimless and the frames are as discreet as possible, but I still hate them. Contacts don’t work for me (my glasses are varifocals), so that’s a no-no. But, I just don’t understand why anyone would want to put anything in their eyes unnecessarily…although, I haven’t managed to glean whether the lenses you mention are merely cosmetic or functional as well? Unfortunately, laser treatment isn’t for me either, as I would still need to wear glasses for close work, and I’ve already gone through the stage of never having my glasses when I need them! At least wearing them all the time means I never lose them!
There are varifocal lenses already, and comparing soft contacts with glasses, lenses win hands down (especially if we’re talking about glasses like “-6” which literally erase eyes from your face). I agree that wearing lenses constantly if you have a perfect vision is not really handy, but show me many girls 40+ with a perfect vision.. I suppose, for those who anyway came to wear lenses this extra bit of delicate definition is a super bonus :).
I also need them now for close work but am still considering laser for less close stuff.. it’s not even once that I’ve found two pairs of glasses for different things on my head!
Interesting idea, but I can’t really see a difference in the with and without pictures. I can see a very marginal change in the top pic, but the second one looks exactly the same before and after to me.
File under, “There’s something else wrong with you that you need to buy our product to fix.” …no thank you. Just sell contact lenses for use or beauty, please, but don’t add to the never-ending stream of products touting that aging is ugly and sad.
But I like the idea of more defined colour regardless of age.. it didn’t seem to be an age thing to me particularly but more just a pretty thing.
