Where has the blazing sun been? Not here in the UK, that’s for sure (here’s hoping for the weekend). But, sun or no sun, facial SPFs are at the top of their game with a new one to add to your list of favourites. This formulation of Skin Defence is a light essence – more or less weightless on the complexion and enriched with skin’s best friend, hyaluronic acid.

The Body Shop has listened to the trends and preferences for light coverage and delivered the goods. I’ve tried three separate tinted moisturisers over the top of this and there has been no pilling – a big plus in my book for those days where you want both.

I love the weight of this – when you squeeze it out of the tube it actually looks a bit heavier than it behaves. When you first apply, you can see some white but as you gently massage it over your face and neck it completely disappears so that your skin looks natural and lightly moisturised.

I’m always amazed at how light SPFs can be – I grew up in the days where SPF was very unsophisticated; you could be seen from Mars, I am sure of it, from the Menorcan beach where we holidayed. Applying sun cream was a major deal – my mum would be up to her elbows in what looked like white emulsion trying to apply to three wriggling children and if you so much as threatened to turn pink the whole process was done again. And, back then, you only used SPF on holiday, never at home so you could be as pink as a raspberry at home without the bottle ever coming out.

The Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-Protection Light Essence SPF50+++ offers broad spectrum protection so it protects against both UVA and UVB, as well as protecting from pollution and daily aggressors (with red algae). This Vitamin C enhanced, easy-to-wear, fluid format just slips right into your routine with no fuss or drama.

It’s proven again and again that SPF is your key to smoother, more even skin. I’ve found I’m less inclined to be in the sun as I’ve got older – I like some for Vitamin D purposes because our bodies make most of our Vitamin D in reaction to sunlight on the skin, but that doesn’t need to be on the face. Arms is fine and it’s widely thought that 10 to 15 minutes will do nicely.

For many, an SPF is the start of their routine but at the same time, others see it as a ‘beauty’ product when in fact, it’s so much more. For that reason, I’m giving the simplicity of the tube a shout out for being completely neutral – it’s for anyone and everyone and a great beginning for anyone who’s been SPF shy to date.

The Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-Protection Light Essence SPF50+++ is £22 which I feel is good value for 60ml. You can find it HERE.
