[unpaid/sample] I’ve been trying out another mind and skin focussed range which feels less millennial targeted and more approachable because there is no celebrity behind it. Exentrique is a vegan, nut-free, cruelty free and hypoallergenic range comprising currently two products – Uplifting Facial Cleanser and Energising Daily Moisturiser. I love the packaging that unfolds into bright colours containing statements of positivity. They feel neither ‘celeb-y’ or contrived.
I love the smell of both the moisturiser and the cleanser – a kind of fruity-zesty scent that gives you the smiles. Founded by Danika Woods, Exentrique was born from the consequences of an extreme nut allergy and eczema and the search to find products and a mindset that could help her through both. After working with a formulator, these simple but effective products absolutely do the jobs they’re intended to do.
I found Energising Daily Moisturiser SPF20 to be cooling at first application and then wonderfully softening. It’s aimed at all skin types but I’d personally veer to drier types as being the best candidates for it. The Uplifting Facial Cleanser is a cream formula that you massage around your complexion before using a damp flannel to remove. I don’t have any complaints at all with this because it did a beautiful cleansing job that left my skin feeling both nourished and flexible afterwards. I’d mark it more as a skin cleanser than a make up remover.
I absolutely love the design on the packaging – it depicts faces that are simple line drawings but could be you, me, he, her, they, them from anywhere across the globe. They’re colourless and genderless on a bright background that initially looks like a floral design until you peer closer. Exentrique is designed to be an everyone range and in the rush from so many brands to be all things to all people this brand seems to achieved exactly that without anyone paying a premium for it. The Cleanser is £15 and the Moisturiser is £18 with a 10% donation going to mental health and gender equality charities. I feel this brand has caught the mood of inclusivity by being straight forwardly approachable without political complexities or over-reaching its aims and promoting beauty as a feeling of comfort rather than an aesthetic.
