As the sun goes relentlessly on (my poor garden!) it’s somewhat unbelievable that this is the UK! I mean, surely there is a cloud round the corner? Apparently not, at least for another week or two. Although it’s either glorious or unbearable depending upon your point of view, if you’ve got sensitive skin then it’s a whole other beast really. Of course you need protection but if you’re allergic to most of it then you’re rather stuck. My skin isn’t particularly sensitive but Lucy’s is and Avene is our summer salvation. Her fair skin gets hot and itchy very quickly and of course, she burns if she even thinks about putting the hob on.

This colour of tint is slightly too deep for her (and slightly too light for me once it’s blended in) so for the UK market, Avene needs to remember the ‘English rose’ tone and go lighter for us please! However, on the plus, you do actually get some tint (a kind of bonne mine in this case), it’s quite matte and doesn’t cast white. I’ll caution that with the fact that I felt it did cast initially but that it disappeared after a time. In fact, the longer you wear it, the more natural it feels and looks on the complexion. It’s a very good substitute for tinted moisturiser when you know you need higher than usual protection, but do let it settle in before you apply make up over the top.
Usual price is £17.50 but Escentual has it for £13.12 HERE which I think is money very well spent.

What about darker skin tones? Or do we not exist in the U.K.?
Thank you for this comment. What a thing to say. Everything and more is already catered to the English rose types.
I see, Trish, that the post was from 2018 – three years ago. Most brands have upped the ante when it comes to providing for all tones, with a much bigger colour selection than there used to be. However, you will still find, amongst all the tones available that there isn’t quite the perfect one for some – whether that be pale, mid, or deep tones. I understand what you say that ‘english rose’ tones are already well catered for because they are (and thankfully the entire tone spectrum is better catered for too) but if you have extremely fair skin there can still be an issue with matching. I write about beauty across the board, have advocated for more choice across all tones for many years. It’s not a question of darker tones not existing in the UK but there was a very poor choice for them for a very long time. If you have read that post out of context of other posts in which I ask for better choice for deeper tones, then I can see your point, but if you take a moment to look, you’ll find advocacy for all tones.
I have been using tinted sun cream all summer and it’s brilliant! I use Ultrasun, because that’s my favourite, but this looks fab too. Because of the risk of a white cast with lots of sunscreens it makes such great sense to add a BB-type tint like this.
My tip is if you’re very fair, mix some of the tinted sunblock with un-tinted and you will bring it down a couple of tones so it’s easier to make it look natural while you still get effective protection.
thanks for the tips Lisa!
Ordered it as soon as you posted about it. Let’s hope it suits my medium skin which doesn’t get along with Spf
