It’s hard to believe that Urban Decay is 20 years old (and even worse that I can remember its launch!). It was literally the coolest brand around with the possible exception of Hard Candy – they were side by side in the edgy-covetable stakes. They were both breaking new ground with colour possibilities – particularly Urban Decay which became the antidote to Lauder type brands that had women consistently with fuschia lips, peach cheeks way high up on the bones and plenty o’ powder. Urban Decay was almost anti-beauty (but pro colour) – another way if you like – and in many ways did the ground work for so many of the edgier brands that exist today.

With all that in mind, Urban Decay has recalled some of their earliest shades in the Urban Decay Vintage Vice Lipstick collection. As you can see.. no fuschia! This black undertone thing and the shade shifting – they really weren’t a thing back then! This is a limited edition collection and once they’re gone, they’re gone so if you were an early adopter of Urban Decay you’ll need to be smart on it. There are 9 shades and I have 6 here.

I forgot to put Oil Slick in the line up!! It’s a lot like the Lipstick Queen Black Lace Rabbit and I wonder if it’s where Poppy got her inspiration from. Beautiful – my second favourite.

So here we go! From bottom to top: Roach, UV-B, Bruise (the brand’s most requested shade for a return), Pallor (my favourite – grey lavender frost) and Smog.

And, here’s Oil Slick! The lipsticks will be £15 when they launch on 4th November in the UK (earlier in the US I think). Notice too the cardboard boxes – the only thing taken out from the original packaging is the typos!
