I love a new find! I spotted Stiks Cosmetiks on Instagram the other day and wanted to find out more about them. Reinventing the lipstick is a big ask but it seems like they’ve actually done it. The premise of Stiks is for products that pop into your pocket – hence the shape.

The rectangular element is easier to see in this picture and they should just literally slot into your jeans pocket and you never have to do the handbag rummage again. Urban Decay’s new glosses have a flat shape element to them for exactly the same reason, except they’re actually rather large for the average pocket in terms of height (or is there a massive pocket trend coming that I don’t know about?!). Stiks lipsticks have also got a flip back lid – you really don’t ever need two hands again… and HOW is it that nobody thought of this already? I’m predicting a trend here – suddenly taking lids off lipsticks is seeming old.

There’s a nice backstory to this brand, too – created by Laura Heilman, a marketing exec and single mum to 3 boys, she wanted some injection of femininity amongst all that testosterone but at the same time she had her hands full. I know it’s only lipstick but there is something about redesigning an entire beauty genre because you’re too busy to look for missing lipstick lids that I think is pretty cool!

Stiks aren’t available in the UK yet – they’re online HERE but if you’re really keen to get your hands on them, they will ship, but it’s expensive at $18. Oh, and the formulas aren’t tested on animals either.

  1. These are calling my name.

  2. I’m at a slight loss as to why you couldn’t put a regular round bullet lipstick tube in your jeans pocket, if you so desired. Whatever the shape though that seems like a recipe for melted lipstick.

I love the back story to these and the whole idea is definitely something different. I will be interested to read any reviews on the lipsticks before summer as I’m heading over to Florida for a family holiday (I will have a little shopping slot so I need a list to make sure I get some goodies. Too much choice though, no idea where to start???)

Lots of brands have done the flip lip thing already – from Bonnebell to Smashbox!

  7. that’s a unique shape! never heard of them before

Guerlain have the “one handed” twist-up lipstick that they introduced a few years ago, and again I’m not understanding the “pocket” thing.

I think it’s because it’s shaped to sit flat in the pocket rather than as a bullet.

I like the big mirror on the case although it does look a bit like a cigarette packet… and nobody should glamorize this! Definitely liking the clear lid to see at a glance which shade it is, but I’ll say that there’s a glam element missing somewhere… or maybe it’s because the whole design is quite revolutionary & so unlike traditional lippies that I can’t quite wrap my head around it??
Kudos to the brand for trying something new though, I would buy out of curiosity!

I was just going to say the same thing – HATE the fag packet look of it. Nooooo! What a step back.
