Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid UK

The most asked question of the last two weeks is when Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid launches in the UK. I’ve got word now that it’s May (although look out from April because sometimes retailers go early). I’m so impressed with this – Mr BBB brought me one back from the US and I gave it to my friend Gemma because a) I don’t wear mattes and b) it was too bright for me. It lasted on her throughout the entire dinner (I’m making it sound like a banquet there.. it was pizza!).

I’m missing a couple of shades but this is our UK line-up and they’ll retail for £6.99. If you are a matte lip lover, you will adore these, I am certain of it.

Shades from bottom to top : Nude Flush, Berry Boost, Rebel Red, Nude Thrill and Orange Shot. They look a little sheeny in the swatch because they haven’t ‘dried’ yet, but when they do, they aren’t the kind of matte that looks bone dry – it’s more of a velvet finish I’d say, and the texture truly stays balmy – if you did a blind test, there is no way you would put the feel of this formula as a matte lipstick.

I’ve just popped up this dry swatch – what I realise with these mattes is that it requires the mwah movement of lips to flatten out the shine and a certain amount of air drying. So I’ve muddled them about with a brush to try and replicate but you would get more colour intensity on the actual lip.

Hi Jane, I’m a long time reader of your blog and love it for that ‘First Look’ approach to new and upcoming products. I also really love the beauty industry news. I know you’ve said in the past that swatches aren’t your strong point but in the case of matte lipsticks it really helps to see the products when they are dry so one can assess how ‘matte’ they really are. I appreciate that it can be difficult to get the right lighting to show off colours and finishes but in the case of these swatches I think it’s just a case of letting them dry before you take the pictures? Would be great to see the products as close to the final finish as possible.
