MAC produce their trend books in time with the fashion seasons – I had this one though a while ago and I really didn’t get the Snapchat references (with the cartoon overlays) because I was still refusing to have anything to do with it! I’m on it now – user name britbeautyblog – so please do join me but I have to warn you I’m still not great at it! I’m slowly starting to enjoy it so that’s something.

What’s very evident is that we are looking at a very strong, dark red lip for autumn. So it ever was but please forget all you know about ‘berry’ shades and refocus on taking it to an edgier level. It’s an amplified wine-stain with not much matte in the mix – it seems that the deeper, more black toned you go with your rouge-noir style lip, the more you need to gloss it up.

Great news for those of us who love sleek and glossy lips but also a bit dauting because the colour palette is so strong. Eek!

There’s an intense precision to it that I feel will put us all to the test! If there was ever a time to invest in a lip brush, it’s now.

If you’re not up for the vampy lip, a fresh and natural lip is on the cards too, but only if you edge up the eyes with a bit of khol. Actually, I feel quite excited for this deep, dark trend ahead – I’m imaging Regent Street awash with women who are powering up a don’t-mess-with-me look! In this image however, the mum in me just wants to brush her hair properly.

Finally, edgy lines. You cannot always literally translate what you see on the catwalks to real life, but we’ve been doing cat eye flicks for long enough that a segue into moving lines around shouldn’t be too much of a stretch. For this kind of look you’ll need some power primers and make up fixing sprays – the minute your line goes awry the look is lost.
So, that’s it – just a quick heads up of a few trends ahead to give you chance to think about how these might work for you, if at all. Remember though, make up is for you to do what you want with, not necessarily follow what everyone else is doing. That’s totally the joy of it.
