So, I think you have to be a fan of Betty Boop for this to have any meaning whatsoever – otherwise, it’s just a rather lovely pinky-red, bold lipstick. I can’t help wishing that it wasn’t just the cardboard box that’s got the Betty image – this would be so much more desirable if Betty was on the casing or even on the lipstick bullet. Something more than a decorated box, anyway.
It’s looking a little more orange here than I feel it is in reality – it’s definitely a cooler tone red. Although it’s nominally a matte finish, I’d say it’s much more on the sheeny side of matte than a true flat matte. I guess – bearing in mind that Betty began her career in the 1930’s – that it’s got a retro shade feel to it; or maybe that’s my imagination!
This launched for Valentine’s Day in the US which makes a lot more sense than a random drop for the UK on March 27th for £16.50.
