Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette

Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette

I’ve seen this palette on US sites for a while now so I was looking forward to seeing it in reality. It doesn’t disappoint, I have to admit, if you love the trend for iridescent sheens. You can mix this one up for eyes or cheeks (you can probably even mix with some clear gloss and get a holo lip but I haven’t experimented with that yet). There are just so many ways to use it if you’re adventurous with eye looks and I like the fact that its colour or highlighter – whatever you need it to be.

It’s fairly smooth in application – bit of dust but nothing to worry about. Shades in the swatch are Emerald, Amethyst, Saphyre and Opal.

As you can see, it’s when the light hits them that they spring to life. I think the palette – at £25 – is pricy; it’s cardboard and the lid won’t sit, it either flops shut or flat the other way so its completely open. But, it does do what it says it will in terms of a generous holo formula. It’s actually sold out (I only got the sample on Wednesday) and it’s disappointing to find it’s not available) but I imagine Debenhams will be scraping the universe for more stock so do keep an eye out. I’ve actually looked around the internet for something similar and I can’t find anything – if you know of a dupe for this, or any similar holo shadow, please do share!

Oh, very pretty but Fyrinnae had these shade-shifty marvels years ago – check out Sakura, Winter Again, Jade Ghost and Crimson Ghost…then go check out their Arcane Magic shades for shade-shifty extra ninja level….

Sometimes the lead times are long, but the prices are low, the shade names are (often) hilarious (Dinosaur Plushie, Space Kitty) and the colours are so pretty

  2. I’m so glad this is finally out in the UK! I really want to get my hands on it to use on top of liquid lipsticks. 😀

Anastasia Moonchild is probably closest to a dupe but it’s only available on the Anastasia BH website x

Shiseido has something like this, the BL215 Static eyeshadow trio.

Some colours look like Make Up Geek duochromes.
