Glossier Ultra Lip Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’ve long said about Glossier that it’s the perfect mid-life brand when it comes to make-up at least, even though it’s very much targeted towards millenials (23-38 depending where you look). It’s a brand that’s genius at the sophisticated, understated look supposedly coveted by that group but it’s also a look or feel that mid-lifers often lean into.  Last year was a turning point in my make-up journey – bare skin all summer, the discovery of a signature lipstick, eye-shadow palettes all but kicked into touch. I’m glad to be wearing my kohl again, because for a long time I didn’t, but I’m reaching more for brown than black, and bare skin days are more regular than coverage days. I never say never, because dipping in and out as the mood takes me is fine, but a full face as standard is very long gone. I think there is a natural turning point for most of us when the entire menu of make-up just doesn’t feel like the right thing – less can be more and we know it! Personally, I’m picking at the canapes more than going all in on a main plus dessert and I think it’s a much more of a mood shift than a confidence shift although they’re probably interlinked somewhere.

Glossier Ultra Lip Review

Ultra Lip is just delicious – a perfect low maintenance summer mood with a palette of colours that aren’t full-on pigment but instead have the juicy look of a gloss with the nourishing texture of a balm. The shade level is vibrant without being overly strong and you can build the colour to a saturation level you like. They’re really very versatile and full of hyaluronic and buttery oils.

Personally, I can very easily wear all of the four shades I was sent, some less intensely than others but none of the shades felt ‘wrong’. Glossier calls these the (cashmere) sweat pants of lipsticks which honestly I couldn’t have put better myself – they’re truly luxury lounge in terms of ease and comfort.

So, here we are – from top left going round the clock: Coupe, Portrait, Villa and Fete. They feel like a complete snip at £14 HERE to the person (me) that spends £34 on something very, very similar. There are 9 shades available.

I absolutely love Glossier having discovered it this year. I know its aimed at younger folk than me, but at 47, the cosmetics at least seem designed perfectly for my skin and face.

      exactly that!

What’s the Dewey tint like Jane? Been meaning to try it. I fell out of love with complexion rescue (it was devastating, we have been in a relationship for a long time). Need a replacement.

Ooh interesting, I’m not as involved with Complexion Rescue as I used to be – it’s still a firm favourite but I can feel myself pulling away! I don’t think I’ve tried Dewey Tint so I’m afraid I’m not much help!
