[unpaid/samples/affiliate/ad] I don’t think the arrival of brown over black is related to lockdown because beauty brands plan years in advance, but it sure is timely. I really embraced a natural look like many people with suddenly nowhere to go and have stuck with it to a certain degree. A brown mascara couldn’t be more relevant right now.

Eyeko’s new brown mascara has enough depth of colour to give lashes substance without drama – you get lengthening, a certain amount of thickening and a warmly toned lash fringe.

The brush is nicely curved so it fits well for application – you can get right from root to tip with it. The shade depth on the lashes will depend on what colour your lashes are in the first place – I’d say mine are just a mousy brown left bare so this does give them more definition and colour but if you have very dark lashes, you probably wouldn’t get much of an effect other than the length and thickening. If you have very fair lashes, you’ll get a good frame for the eyes that doesn’t look over the top and awkward.

There’s also a Liquid Liner in brown (above) – again, a great framing shade for lighter lashes to sit above the lash line. I think it’s a little pale for me (and I’m so useless with a liquid liner – I’ve astonished myself by getting the swatch line straight) but it’s less stark, for sure, than standard black. There is that moment when you haven’t worn make up for a while, or aren’t wearing it in the same way, when you put it on it looks wrong somehow, even if it’s exactly the same as you always wore. Browns are a good transition – warm, flattering and easier on tones that are losing the summer glow. You can find the mascara HERE for £19. Non affiliate HERE.
