Clinique iD Dramatically Different Moisturising BB Gel

[sample/affiliate] Honestly, it took me so long to work out that the camouflage pattern represents skin tones. Now I’ve seen it, I can’t un-see it (and love it) but the penny took a while to drop. There are several new points for this range – the signing of Emilia Clarke as global ambassador, the new Tone Up Gel base and the new BB Gel base. I’ve got the BB Gel Base here to review.

First of all, the oil-free gel can be topped up with any of the cartridges so you get a moisturising BB finish topped up with something to address any other skin issues you feel you might have. Reactive skin, uneven tone and irritation are just some of the options that allow you to customise your base.

The brand sent me the Fatigue cartridge to energise and glow-revive my skin – at top line testing it’s hard to say one way or the other how effective it is (and I’m also testing a luxury brand daily moisturiser) but I can certainly say I like the fresh feel from it and it does give a nice dose of moisture.

I can’t ignore the fact that the base liquid is grey in the bottle – when I put my orange gel in and pumped out the combination looked like a little pile of brain matter which is why I haven’t pictured it. I know – not ideal, but it is a bit of a surprise that it’s grey and not white or even blue and I *think* it’s because of the colour change technology that adapts to your tone. The tint that comes from it is sheer – if you’re into very light coverage, it’s great for a natural and real skin look because combined with the hydration the finish is bouncy, soft and well-looking. At £36 for both base (of which there are also several options) and cartridge, I think it’s good value (115ml). It’s really the first time that customisation feels like at attractive and simplified prospect – I didn’t get it at first but now I do and can see that it might be exciting to adapt your skin care to what you need now rather than just sticking to your regular routine.  Take your time, consider the options and have fun picking your product HERE. Is the luxury moisturiser you mentioned Augustinus Bader by any chance :-)?

Ooh, I’ve been testing a sample myself. Looking forward to your review!

What do you make of it Lizzie? So far I’m a bit underwhelmed but have just received the new Victoria Beckham + Augustinus cell renewing cream so might try that as well to boost things up!

Underwhelmed as well. I find it very occlusive (I have The Rich Cream), and I wouldn’t be able to put makeup on top. It’s quite good for the day after using retinol and things like that, but they’re very specific about how you must use nothing else at all, and that doesn’t work for me.

This looks nice, but where would it fit into a routine – I need SPF, so the tinted bit would disappear again, wouldn’t it?

I guess so – unless you put it underneath but there’s no guarantee the two wouldn’t interact.

  3. Ooo love the packaging on this one!
