[sample/affiliate] So, the name of this, predictably, sets my teeth on edge. Different markets handle the ageing messaging in very different ways and the UK is notoriously not okay with a youth message predominating – especially from a brand like Clarins that is kept afloat by people of my age. And, yet, other markets will find it completely acceptable and actually desirable. Clarins is a global brand so upsetting one market won’t really matter but just to make the point that everlasting youth really isn’t a goal that’s achievable or even nearly – enjoying, respecting and appreciating the age you are right now is a happier place to be.
At least, I suppose, they are very clear that it’s for older women. The formula uses plumping spheres, argan oil and supposedly skin tightening oat sugars (sorry, I’m so distracted thinking about the film Death Becomes Her for some reason!). I’m also slightly thrilled by the inclusion of nipplewort. Who knew? It’s true that older skin doesn’t reflect light in the same way as younger skin and a glowy complexion is definitely desirable, but I strongly doubt that any foundation, even a skincare/base hybrid, can tighten your skin (as is the claim) even if it can help you look brighter.
I was sent three shades – all a bit too light for me – and I can tell you that it’s very moisturising with high coverage. I was probably a little too enthusiastic with the amount so I know now you only need a tiny dot to cover your entire face. It’s definitely a comfort wear and gives a smooth and refined look to the skin. There will be 24 shades going from very pale to very deep although I have to say the shades I tried (below) seemed to have white undertones that made the colours much paler than I expected from the box and the look of the shades.
