I’m going to drop the most over-used word in social media about these limited edition colour cases for the Anna Sui 20th Anniversary collection – OBSESSED! I am truly obsessed with the dolly colour cases and their beautiful eye shadow or lipstick inserts.
Everything falls into place when you know their inspiration. So, going left to right, the first dolly, Sally, is inspired by Sally Bowles/Liza Minnelli from Cabaret, followed by Bea, whose hair style is inspired by Louise Brooks (although I don’t know where the patch came from). Lastly, Marion, inspired by 1930’s silent movie actress, Marion Davies (definitely worth a Wiki to discover her career and personal life dominated by William Randolph Hearst).
Each dolly is attached to a piece of componentry that holds either a lip product (the beautiful flower) or a face colour (butterfly). I think it’s most likely, practically speaking, that you’d pick a lip colour.
They look more like a row of delicious chocolates than make up! There are ten lip shades ranging from black (!) through to a nude shade and seven face colours mostly bright and vibrant like the yellow shade you see. I’m just going to flag that there are no swatches yet – I just can’t.
The autumn collection is quite big so I have other posts to come but for now you can find Sally, Bea and Marion for £10 each HERE and the lip fills HERE for £9 each. Face colours are also £9 HERE. These are links to Amazon (prime is available), but you can also find (some) of the new products on Beauty Bay HERE.
Non Aff HERE.

I love when Anna Sui does these kind of retro novelty products, makes me think of Baby Doll makeup ads from the 60s!
Oh these are just gorgeous! They are glamorous and just a little kitsch and need to be on my dressing table (will need to make room *cough*). Happy days . I so wish I could carry off those fab hairstyles too! Thank you Jane xx
Googling it, some papier-machê doll heads come up on a Pinterest board which were posted by someone and then saved by Anna Sui. There are 4, the fourth is modelled on Anna May Wong and you can see where the idea for the pirate eyepatch comes from for ‘Bea’:
