[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I first wrote about new make up brand 19/99 in 2021 – it’s something of a free style approach to make-up with a positive ageing attitude. One of the few brands that is made with all ages in mind and I suppose you could say all abilities as well. You cannot go too far astray with beautifully soft coloured pencils. Anyway, fast forward two years, and my, how they’ve grown ;-). Picked up by SpaceNK so more easily accessible, they’ve also added to the inventory with matte balms and clear gloss.
The newness is so nicely considered – completely in keeping with the brand’s original ethos. One of the items I am really taken with the brush – Tapered Multi Brush which is £22 HERE. It’s one of those rare (synthetic fibre) brushes that feels instantly at home in your hand – I used it to blend lip balm (Vaseline) and one of the crayons to make a tinted balm and it was an absolute joy.
Bit blurry but you get the scenario – the crayon I’m using is Fiore.
I’ve screen-grabbed from Instagram so you can see the light pink result – you can add as much or as little crayon as you like.
The other thing you could very nicely mix any of the pencils with (why didn’t I try the blue for lips!) is the High Shine Gloss. You’ll get more of a juicy finish with this. I feel perhaps the usage suggestion of eyes and cheeks is more for the 19 end of the 19/99 – glossy lids rarely work well and obsessed as I was with all of MAC’s eye glosses, they’re more for a moment on the ‘gram than a day at work. Gloss is £18 HERE.
The thing I absolutely love is this matte balm in Terra. It’s the colour, not the finish, because the first thing I did was put some balm on top but it’s the sort of colour that’s just a shade or two above your natural lip colour and gives you a kind of ‘blessed with gorgeous lips’ look. It’s extra blood to the lips, if you like, and very flattering on a natural face.
Terra is a perfect shade for summer lips when tones are warmer – for some reason, I feel it’s very French. It’s £22 HERE. It comes with a sharpener but don’t lose it – they’re £5 each so search your drawers very carefully!
If you’re mascara shy for whatever reason, take a look at the Lash Tint Mascara which I’d call a half-mascara. You’ll get some tint but you won’t much volumising or depth of colour. You can also use it on brows. I know that plenty of older women give up on mascara at a certain point, perhaps because their hair is lighter or less prolific and these are absolutely ideal for that situation. It only takes one level of colour depth up to make eyes shine again. If your lashes or brows are sparse you don’t necessarily want a very deep shade because it can exacerbate gaps – if this is you, opt for the Taupe shade and see how you get along. It’s £14 HERE. A deep grey should be next on the list.
As a quick reminder of some of the coloured pencils, from bottom to top: Wasser, Bor, Fiore, Lustro, Notte, Zold, Oro. A few are out of stock. I’d really like to see some deeper metallics up next. The pencils are £19 HERE.
